Gonzales by Ben Tillman in Columbia, S.C.; the 1930 murder of Edward J. Dennis in Moncks Corner (Berkeley County, S.C.); and shootings in 1926 and 1930 by those in favor of the illegal distillation of whiskey, including the murder of S.C. Senator Edward J. Dennis, Jr., who was shot on election day, 24 July 1930. Keynote address presented to the 70th meeting of the South Caroliniana Society, 29 Apr. 2006.
